The Two Faces of the ‘Man’ in Istanbul

Istanbul-Panorama-from-Tower-GalataThink of the two sides of the Bosporus.

One is closer to the outer world then other, it’s more vibrant. It’s a lot younger. It’s richer too, richer in vibe, wealth and passion. It’s louder and most certainly makes a lot more noise. The other is worn out, it’s stressful and it’s weaker, it’s meek. Falling in love with the louder side easier than the second. However under its worn out grounds there is so much more, but you have to feel it in your bones to understand. Even though the second is more complicated, curiosity wins you over and you want to feel more.

One would not have existed without the other. Both would be lost land.

One of my ex-boyfriends had once told me that Istanbul was like a woman, he said she was addictive but presumptuous. If I was ever to see him I would tell him Istanbul was like a man, one that holds you so close that all you want to do is belong to it. Even its two-faced ways makes you want to stay.

Istanbul is blistered with snow these days and both sides are cold. Its very quiet, it is -if you ask me the silence before a storm.

About An Addled Moment

I came to Istanbul to discover not only this beautiful city and its nightlife but I’m also here to discover me.
